The State Transformation Commission, Government of Uttar Pradesh, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AVW Global to bring premier international motorcycle racing championships to the state. The agreement aims to create a strong and sustainable environment to bring events such as MotoGP and the Asia Road Racing Championship to India.

To reiterate, India got a taste of MotoGP in 2024 and despite challenges, the races were a big success with a big turnout of spectators, both on track and on the TV. That said, there were a number of hurdles that got in the way of India hosting MotoGP in 2025 and 2026.

This is where AVW Global comes in. It is a premium automotive and motorsport consultancy founded by former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham. The company provides advisory services across research, event execution, and long-term strategic planning in motorsports. Abraham also brings experience as the former owner and operator of the Brno Circuit in the Czech Republic, adding operational expertise to the project.

Under the agreement, AVW Global will work closely with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to facilitate the return of top-tier motorcycle racing to India in a professional manner. A key focus of the partnership is the Buddh International Circuit.

The circuit, regarded as one of the most advanced racing facilities in the country, will serve as the venue for these international events. The Government of UP added that they are aware of the fact that the BIC is an under utilised race track and there are plans to do what it takes to breathe fresh life into it. This is also to ensure it gets homologated to current standards, in order to host MotoGP.

Besides MotoGP, there are plans to host the ARRC or the Asia Road Racing Championships as well. Ron Hogg, Promotions Director at Two Wheels Motor Racing, confirmed that India is significant, with a strong and passionate fan base. He indicated that racing activities could begin as early as July-August 2026, subject to final scheduling and operational readiness.

Karel Abraham, meanwhile, stated that India, being the world’s largest motorcycle market, has strong potential to host world-class racing in a structured and sustainable manner. He emphasised that the approach would focus on professional event management and long-term motorsport ecosystem development.
