Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone on April 23 for a Rs 5,400 crore solar manufacturing facility by ReNew Energy Global plc in Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam, marking a key step in India’s push to expand domestic clean energy manufacturing.

The project, a 6 gigawatt (GW) solar ingot and wafer unit, comes as India targets 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and seeks to reduce reliance on imports in the solar supply chain.

The facility is being developed under Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, which aims to attract large-scale investments and promote backward integration in renewable manufacturing, officials said. ReNew Energy Global plc has committed investments of about Rs 82,000 crore in the state, reflecting growing investor interest in regional clean energy initiatives.

The plant is expected to be commissioned within 24 months and generate more than 2,100 direct and indirect jobs, according to officials.

Senior executives, including founder and Chief Executive Sumant Sinha, are expected to attend the ceremony.
