The Delhi government has officially declared around 673.32 hectares of the Central Ridge area as ‘reserved forest’ under Section 20 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927.
The notified land falls under the Western Forest Division and includes areas surrounding Sardar Patel Marg and the President’s Estate.
The move significantly enhances legal protection for one of Delhi’s most environmentally sensitive green zones and marks the completion of a process that had remained pending for more than three decades.
The Ridge areas were first brought under preliminary notification through Section 4 of the Indian Forest Act in May 1994.
However, the final declaration under Section 20, which grants enforceable reserved forest status after settlement of claims and legal formalities, had remained incomplete for years.
“The declaration completed an important process that had been pending for more than three decades,” the Chief Minister said.
