The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved the transfer of land for five major Textile and Apparel Parks to be set up in Varanasi, Amroha, Bareilly, Sant Kabir Nagar and Bijnor, the Hindustan Times reported.

The state government said on Monday (8 June) that more than 326 acres have been set aside for the projects, with cabinet clearance granted for the transfer of all land parcels.

Each of the parks will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework, with the administration aiming to draw fresh investment and generate large-scale employment in the state.

The notification setting up the authority to implement the projects has already been issued.

The Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) has filed the pre-feasibility report for the Varanasi park, while revised reports for the other four are being drawn up.

These will be finalised after factoring in inputs from the industry.

The tender process for the road has been completed and contract formalities are in progress. For electricity, a blueprint covering a 132 KV substation, a transmission line and 33 KV infrastructure has been readied to ensure steady power supply to the park.

The government is laying particular stress on developing the projects in keeping with environmental norms, with processes related to environmental clearance, groundwater use and a No Objection Certificate from the Forest Department currently in motion.

PPP-based tender documents for selecting master developers for the remaining four parks are also being prepared.

The state government noted that the Sant Kabir Textile and Apparel Park scheme would give Uttar Pradesh a fresh identity in textile manufacturing, readymade garments, technical textiles and exports.

Khalilabad in Sant Kabir Nagar already hosts Bardahia Bazar, the state’s oldest and largest handloom and textile market.
