A Vande Bharat train crossed the world’s highest railway bridge, the Chenab Bridge, at nearly 100 kmph for the first time, marking a significant step in improving rail connectivity and train operations in Jammu and Kashmir, as per an ANI reportThe speed trial was conducted on the 111-km new Broad Gauge rail section between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Banihal, under the Jammu Division of Northern Railway, after the Railway Ministry approved an increase in the maximum permissible speed of trains on the section to 100 kmph.
Earlier, the permissible speed was 85 kmph on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Sangaldan section and 75 kmph on the Sangaldan-Banihal stretch. The revised speed limit enables trains to operate faster across the newly developed rail corridor.The increase in speed will not only reduce travel time, but will also strengthen the connectivity of Jammu-Kashmir. Passengers will get faster, safer and more comfortable travel facilities. This will also boost tourism, trade and economic activities in the region. Railways remains continuously committed to the safety and convenience of passengers,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu Uchit Singhal told ANI.The Vande Bharat’s run at close to 100 kmph over the Chenab Bridge in Reasi district demonstrates the improved operational capabilities of the new railway route.
The bridge is a key component of the railway project aimed at connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
