The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened a 9-km stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway between DND Flyway and Jaitpur on a trial basis, offering relief to commuters travelling between Ashram, Kalindi Kunj and Faridabad, according to a report by Dipak K Dash in The Times of India.With this section now operational, motorists from east and south Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad can access the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway directly and travel without interruption to Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur.The Jaitpur-KMP (Kundli-Manesar-Palwal) interchange section has already been opened to traffic. Nearly 8.5 km of the newly opened 9-km stretch is elevated, officials told TOI. Of the 59-km Delhi link connecting DND Flyway to the expressway’s junction with the KMP Expressway, around 50 km has now been opened in phases.With the DND-Jaitpur stretch becoming operational, Delhi is fully connected to the country’s longest access-controlled expressway.The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was originally planned to run from Sohna to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) near Mumbai. In August 2018, NHAI proposed extending the alignment to DND Flyway to ensure the corridor began from Delhi itself.
Officials said trial runs are conducted only after construction is completed and safety audits carried out. Commuters are not charged toll during this period, which allows NHAI to identify and fix any deficiencies before the stretch is formally commissioned, according to the report.
