Odisha is set to get a major semiconductor manufacturing facility worth Rs 3,406.25 crore following approval granted by the Unit Approval Committee of the Falta Special Economic Zone.
The regulatory clearance, issued during the 217th UAC meeting, paves the way for SiCSem Private Limited to establish Odisha’s second major semiconductor unit at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha district.
The facility will manufacture silicon carbide semiconductor devices, including SiC diodes and SiC MOSFETs, across 21.889 acres.
The plant will have an annual production capacity of 4.8 million SiC diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs, marking a significant addition to India’s advanced semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.The project is projected to generate export revenues of Rs 7,043 crore over the first five years of operation, alongside net foreign exchange earnings of approximately Rs 4,523 crore during the same period.
This development follows earlier semiconductor initiatives in the state, including a separate Rs 2,000 crore SiCSem facility that began construction in November 2025.
That project, approved under the India Semiconductor Mission, represents India’s first end-to-end silicon carbide chip production facility and is expected to become operational by 2027-28.
Silicon carbide semiconductors are critical components for high-voltage applications in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, power inverters and defence equipment.
The approval provides momentum to Odisha’s growing semiconductor ecosystem while highlighting the role of special economic zones in facilitating capital-intensive, high-technology investments in eastern India.
