MUMBAI’S ₹10,000-CRORE GREEN MUNICIPAL BOND AMBITION
Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is preparing a green municipal bond financing programme of approximately ₹9,500 crore, potentially through multiple issuances.
An initial ₹1,000-crore green bond is reportedly under consideration, with issuance possibly during February–March 2027, subject to market conditions and regulatory requirements.
The proposed financing would support water supply, wastewater treatment and other eligible sustainable urban infrastructure.
The larger opportunity: Moving Indian cities towards creditworthy, investment-ready and market-financed infrastructure.
