Google’s proposed $15 billion AI data centre project in Andhra Pradesh could generate close to 2 lakh jobs and deliver a significant boost to the state’s economy, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh told CNBC-TV18.
Speaking after the foundation-laying ceremony in Visakhapatnam, Lokesh said the 1 gigawatt facility is not just a standalone investment but part of a much larger ecosystem being built in the state. He said the government is working to develop complementary sectors such as renewable energy, battery storage, server manufacturing and power electronics alongside the data centre.
Lokesh highlighted that the employment impact will go beyond direct hiring at the facility. Jobs are expected across artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud operations, manufacturing and infrastructure services, with additional opportunities likely to emerge in ancillary industries that support data centre operations.
