Construction of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor has crossed another crucial stage with the successful installation of a massive 130-metre steel bridge span near Tralsi village in Gujarat’s Bharuch district.

The newly launched structure forms part of a 330-metre-long bridge being built across the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor between the Surat and Vadodara sections.

The bridge has been designed as a three-span configuration comprising two 100-metre spans on either side and a central 130-metre continuous span.

Officials said the central span was launched on May 16 and described the operation as one of the more technically demanding engineering exercises undertaken on the high-speed rail project so far.

The steel structure stands around 18 metres high, measures 15.5 metres in width and weighs close to 2,900 metric tonnes.

The span was assembled on temporary trestles positioned approximately 14 metres above ground level before being pushed into place using an automated launching system.
