Uttar Pradesh government has started the land acquisition process for the proposed Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway, one of the state’s most ambitious road projects. At around 750 km, the corridor will be significantly longer than the 594-km Ganga Expressway and will connect western, central and eastern UP through a single high-speed route

The project has entered a key stage with land acquisition formally beginning in Shamli district. Authorities have imposed restrictions on land transactions in affected areas to prevent speculative price increases and ensure smoother acquisition for the mega infrastructure project.

Teams have started identifying land along the proposed alignment by installing cement poles in fields. Work is currently underway in villages including Nichalpur and Milak, while around 20 villages in the Syohara region are expected to be affected by the expressway alignment.

The corridor will connect major districts including Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Meerut, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Bareilly, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Sitapur, Lucknow, Barabanki, Bahraich, Gonda, Ayodhya, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Gorakhpur. The route is planned parallel to the Nepal border, creating a new economic corridor across northern Uttar Pradesh.

Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway is expected to connect with several important highways and expressways, including the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, Ambala-Shamli Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway and the proposed Delhi-Katra Expressway feeder network. There are also plans to extend connectivity towards Kushinagar and the Bihar border in the future.
