The Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday announced the appointment of Ravi Shankar as Executive Director of the bank, with immediate effect.
Shankar, with over thirty years of experience in the Reserve bank, will now be responsible to look after the Department of Statics and Information Management. Prior to his promotion as the ED, he was serving as the Adviser-in-Charge of the bank.The appointment is the second at the Executive Director level at the RBI under two months. In May, the central bank had elevated Gunveer Singh as Executive Director, assigning him charge of the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems, effective May 18, 2026.
Shankar has worked across several areas including corporate and banking statistics, the government securities market, settlement systems, debt management, and institutional surveys. Shankar holds a Master’s degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University and a Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance.
