Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced expansion of Uttar Pradesh’s road network, revealing that highway projects worth Rs 5 lakh crore will be completed across the state within the next two years.
Alongside this, he confirmed approval for fresh infrastructure works valued at Rs 50,000-60,000 crore following discussions with state officials.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the inauguration and foundation laying of three National Highway projects worth more than Rs 4,850 crore, Gadkari said, “I have approved all the new projects worth Rs 50,000-60,000 crore that were discussed with officials earlier today, and I want to assure Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that they will move forward. In addition, road infrastructure projects valued at Rs 5 lakh crore across Uttar Pradesh will be completed within the next two years.”
Highlighting the role of infrastructure in economic transformation, the minister said improved transport connectivity encourages investment, strengthens industry and creates employment opportunities.
Among the major announcements was the six-laning of the Lucknow-Sitapur highway at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore, expected to reduce travel time from two hours to around 50 minutes.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh credited Gadkari for swiftly approving long-pending infrastructure proposals, including the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway and a 23-km elevated corridor linking Lucknow Airport with the Outer Ring Road.
He also said a metro project above the elevated road had received approval.
