The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved four major expressway projects designed to strengthen connectivity across the state, including two new link expressways connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway with the Purvanchal and Ganga expressways.
Chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Cabinet cleared the revised and final Request for Proposal (RFP) for both link expressways and also approved the alignment for the proposed Vindhya Expressway along with the Vindhya-Purvanchal Spur Link.
Among the approved projects is a 50.98 km greenfield access-controlled corridor connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway.
Planned as a six-lane highway with provision for future expansion to eight lanes, the project will be built under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model at an estimated cost of Rs 4,775.84 crore.
The Cabinet also sanctioned a 90.84 km greenfield link connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Ganga Expressway via Farrukhabad.
Estimated to cost Rs 7,488.74 crore, the six-lane corridor will also be designed for future widening to eight lanes. Together, the two link expressways represent an investment of more than Rs 12,264 crore.
According to the state government, the projects will create a seamless expressway grid linking three of Uttar Pradesh’s flagship expressways, reducing travel time, easing freight movement, lowering fuel consumption and improving long-distance connectivity across the state.
The expressway will improve connectivity across Prayagraj, Bhadohi, Mirzapur and Sonbhadra districts.
In addition, approval was granted for the Vindhya-Purvanchal Spur Link (Option-1), estimated at Rs 9,039 crore, which will connect Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Chandauli.
The state government said the tendering process for the two link expressways will begin shortly.
Selected contractors will be required to complete construction within approximately 36 months, followed by five years of maintenance, paving the way for the next phase of Uttar Pradesh’s expressway-led infrastructure expansion.
