The Delhi government is planning three major flyover projects across north-east and west Delhi districts in a bid to tackle chronic traffic congestion on some of the capital’s busiest stretches.
The infrastructure plan includes two elevated corridors, each approximately five km long, and a cable-stayed bridge designed to create signal-free routes through heavily congested areas.
According to PTI, one proposed elevated flyover would connect Britannia Chowk to the Outer Ring Road via Shakur Basti Railway Station, whilst another would run over the Karawal Nagar drain, linking Ankur Enclave to Gokulpuri Metro Station.
The proposal came after residents of Karawal Nagar, Dayalpur, Sonia Vihar, and nearby colonies struggled due to narrow and encroached roads to commute. It only got worse during peak hours.
The third major project involves construction of a 1.8 km cable-stayed bridge between Azadpur and Delhi University’s North Campus as part of an elevated Ring Road corridor.
