Karnataka government has advanced plans for the large-scale redevelopment of Bengaluru’s iconic Majestic Bus Station, with the proposed Rs 4,997 crore project moving to the final stage of the state’s approval process.
The project has been recommended to the State High Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC), chaired by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, after being examined by the State-Level Single Window Agency (SLSWA) for Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects.
The recommendation forms part of a broader push to attract private investment into public infrastructure.
At its latest meeting, the SLSWA reviewed seven PPP proposals with a combined estimated value of Rs 12,936.86 crore, covering sectors ranging from urban transport and tourism to ports, horticulture and the film industry.
Among the projects requiring clearance from the SHLCC are the Majestic Bus Station redevelopment, a Rs 6,925 crore multi-purpose harbour and shipyard at Manki Port in Uttara Kannada, and a Rs 729.43 crore Film City in Mysuru.
If approved, the Majestic redevelopment will transform one of Bengaluru’s busiest public transport hubs through modern passenger facilities, upgraded infrastructure and improved operational efficiency under the PPP model.
The project is expected to play a key role in enhancing the city’s public transport ecosystem while accommodating future passenger demand.
