Industry leaders have welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day vision for Viksit Bharat, backing the focus on Sapt dhara, manufacturing, AI, semiconductors, infrastructure, innovation and self-reliance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address, which set ambitious targets for Indian companies, banking, pharmaceuticals, nuclear power, semiconductors and artificial intelligence, has received a positive response from industry leaders, who said the focus on scale, self-reliance, manufacturing and technology could create new opportunities for Indian businesses.
Anant Swarup, Secretary General, FICCI
FICCI’s Secretary General said India’s ambition to have at least 50 Indian companies in the Fortune 500, an Indian bank among the world’s top five, and an Indian consulting or accounting company among the global top five was “bold and timely”. He said the targets reflected a decisive shift from India being a large market to becoming a global centre of enterprise, capital and knowledge.
To achieve this, Indian companies will have to decisively invest in innovation, technology, talent, international expansion, and world-class governance,” Swarup said. He added that the government would also need to support this ambition through predictable regulation, ease of doing business on the ground, easier access to competitive capital, competitive taxation, stronger infrastructure, skilled manpower and trade agreements that open global markets.
