The Sri City and Naidupeta have already put South Andhra on the industrial map, a bigger project is now taking shape right next to Krishnapatnam Port known as the KRIS City. This article explains what is being built, its scale, and the connectivity that’s driving the buzz around it.
What Exactly Is KRIS City?
KRIS City, the Krishnapatnam Industrial Smart City, is being established as a priority node within the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), and is a joint venture between the AP Industrial Corridors Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (APICDC) and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).
This project is located right beside the major ports of the state, and is designed to become a complete industrial and residential hub in the upcoming years.
How much Area is Covered
Officially, the Krishnapatnam Industrial Node spans two sites, a North site near Krishnapatnam Port (Nellore district) and a South site in Chittoor district and together covering an estimated 14,200 acres, with a developable area of around 11,100 acres. Phase 1, currently under construction, covers about 2,500 acres, while APICDC’s own long-term master plan envisions development across 12,000 acres.
The Connectivity of KRIS City
For being an industrial and residential city in the upcoming years, KRIS City’s biggest selling point is how well-connected the location already is, or will soon be.

- Naidupeta to Turpu Kanupur which is around 34.8 km via 6-lane NH-71
- Turpu Kanupur to Krishnapatnam Port is connected via NH-516W
- Nellore city which is around 25 km
- Tirupati International Airport which is within roughly 90 km
- Proposed Dagadarthi or Nellore Airport which will be roughly 50 to 75 km
- Chennai city is around 150 to 170 km
- Krishnapatnam Railway Station is about 15 km from the North node
Why the Location Matters
A direct port access, cuts down the logistics costs for export-oriented industries. This upcoming city’s location within the overlap zone of two industrial corridors which are CBIC and the Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), giving it added connectivity benefits. And for employment, this area has access to skilled manpower from the surrounding Nellore-Tirupati region.
