The Railway Board has approved a Rs 383.78 crore maintenance depot for Vande Bharat trains at Tatanagar railway station in Jamshedpur.
Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato said the approval was conveyed to him by Railway Board Director (Projects and Development) Sumit Kumar through a formal communication. The new facility will be developed in the Loco Colony area by expanding Tatanagar’s existing coaching depot.
The depot is planned to handle key maintenance requirements for Vande Bharat trains, including technical inspections, routine servicing and rapid washing. It will have facilities to maintain both Chair Car and Sleeper variants of Vande Bharat rakes.
Separately, Mahato has sought further capacity expansion at Tatanagar station in view of rising passenger and train traffic. He has proposed four additional platforms and a loop line under the PM Gati Shakti scheme.
The proposed station expansion is currently under consideration by the Railway Board.
