*Lucknow’s ₹600 Crore PPP Waste-to-Energy Project: A New UCF Milestone*
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has submitted a ₹600 crore Waste-to-Energy project for support under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). The proposed financing structure is particularly noteworthy—25% UCF assistance, 10% ULB contribution and 65% private investment—demonstrating how the UCF is evolving into a powerful catalyst for mobilising private capital rather than merely funding infrastructure.
The project is proposed under a 33-year DBFOT PPP model with a capacity to process 2,500 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day and generate around 25 MW of electricity. The appointment of a Transaction Adviser also highlights the growing importance of professional project structuring, financial modelling and bankability assessment in UCF implementation.
This development reinforces a key message: the next phase of the Urban Challenge Fund will be driven by investment readiness, strong PPP structuring and innovative financing—not just project approvals.
