India’s infrastructure planning pipeline under the PM GatiShakti initiative has expanded to 396 projects worth an estimated Rs 18.66 lakh crore, with 256 already sanctioned and 198 currently under implementation, according to government data.
The projects, spanning sectors including roads and railways, have been evaluated through the Network Planning Group (NPG), the mechanism established under PM GatiShakti to examine major infrastructure and connectivity proposals.
Launched on 13 October, 2021, the initiative aims to improve coordination between ministries and support integrated infrastructure planning. Logistics and connectivity projects involving investments of more than Rs 500 crore are routed through the NPG mechanism for evaluation.
“As on date, 396 infrastructure projects with total estimated cost of about Rs 18.66 lakh crore have been evaluated through the NPG mechanism. Of these, 396 projects, 256 projects have been sanctioned — out of which, 198 projects are under implementation,” the government data showed.
The programme is intended to improve multimodal connectivity and reduce logistics costs by encouraging better coordination between different modes of transport and infrastructure sectors.
