The Uttar Pradesh government is looking to give fresh momentum to its ambition of building a trillion-dollar economy by accelerating investment and project implementation across the information technology and electronics ecosystem, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, startups and global capability centres (GCCs).At a high-level review meeting of the IT and Electronics Department held at Yojana Bhawan in Lucknow on Wednesday, Information Technology and Electronics Minister Sunil Kumar Sharma reviewed the implementation of key policies and schemes and discussed an action plan to expand the sector’s contribution to the state economy.
The review covered the implementation of the IT Policy, Electronics Manufacturing Policy, Semiconductor Policy, Data Centre Policy, Startup Policy and the policy framework for GCCs.The meeting also focused on attracting investment in emerging technology segments while creating employment opportunities, strengthening skills and fostering innovation across the state.
Sharma directed officials to ensure timely and effective implementation of departmental policies and schemes. He stressed that new initiatives and incentive schemes should be finalised within the stipulated timelines and that their benefits should reach investors, companies and the state’s youth.The minister also called for a greater focus on employment generation and skill development alongside investment promotion. He emphasised the need for balanced technological development across different regions of Uttar Pradesh, according to officials.
The department was further directed to speed up the approval of investment proposals, disbursement of incentives and implementation of projects. Regular coordination among concerned departments and institutions, along with continuous monitoring of scheme progress, was also stressed.
The minister said the IT and electronics sector would have an important role in the state’s trillion-dollar economy ambition and underscored the need for an investor-friendly environment and timely execution of projects.
Officials were asked to align the upcoming action plan with the department’s targets and accelerate work in areas including investment, innovation, employment, startups and technology development.
