The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Thursday (1 October) invited bids for the first phase of the elevated Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), connecting Vatika Chowk with the Dwarka Expressway cloverleaf on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.
The 4.23-km stretch will cost Rs 776 crore and be built in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode within 30 months of the work being awarded. Bids close on 18 November.
GMDA said the project will ease traffic at seven major junctions in sectors 69 to 75A, which its studies show will need grade separation within a decade as hourly traffic is projected to cross 10,000 car units.
GMDA chief engineer Pravin Chaudhary said the design has four elevated lanes each way between Vatika Chowk and NH-48, plus 3+3-lane primary and 2+2-lane secondary service roads, with ramps, loops and surface U-turns for signal-free movement.
“The elevated road will also have second-level access roads for commuters towards the Sector 75 and 75A roads and another access road towards Tulip Chowk. This road will allow seamless movement of vehicles between the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and Sohna Road and also reduce congestion on the existing stretch,” Chaudhary said.
A Rs 755-crore tender floated for the project in March was scrapped in June after the state government sought changes to the request for proposal (RFP).
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who reviewed the project at a meeting in Gurugram on Friday (2 October), also directed officials to fast-track the Sheetla Mata Medical College and Hospital, where civil works are due to finish by December, and to bolster the city’s drainage with rainwater harvesting structures, large ponds and green-belt drainage provisions.
