Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Thursday said it has dispatched the eighth steam generator for India’s 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) programme, completing the delivery of all eight units ahead of their contractual schedules.Manufactured at L&T’s Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat, the steam generator is a critical component of a nuclear power plant.

The latest dispatch, three months ahead of schedule, underscores the company’s manufacturing capabilities and its focus on safety, quality and timely execution, it said.

The milestone comes as India accelerates its nuclear power expansion to strengthen energy security, meet rising electricity demand and support industrial growth, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure, while advancing its long-term decarbonisation goals.Timely delivery of critical nuclear equipment is expected to play an important role in supporting the country’s planned capacity additions, the company said.

Commenting on the development, Anil V Parab, Whole-Time Director and Senior Executive Vice-President, Manufacturing at L&T, said the dispatch of all eight steam generators ahead of schedule reflected the company’s commitment to nuclear safety and manufacturing excellence. He said the achievement demonstrated L&T’s engineering capabilities and its contribution to India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, which includes scaling up nuclear power generation capacity to 100 GWe.

L&T has been contributing to India’s nuclear power programme for more than six decades, it said.

Its manufacturing portfolio includes steam generators, reactor headers, pressurisers, end shields, calandrias and components for fast breeder reactors.

Parab also reaffirmed the company’s long-term partnership with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) to accelerate the country’s transition to clean energy.

The company said continued investments in advanced manufacturing technologies, automation and specialised nuclear fabrication capabilities have helped it build an extensive nuclear manufacturing ecosystem, strengthening domestic capabilities to support India’s civil nuclear expansion.
