The Network Planning Group under the PM GatiShakti initiative recommended over 400 infrastructure projects worth approximately Rs 20.23 lakh crore for approval, as the scheme completed five years today.

The projects span roads, railways and other connectivity infrastructure across various ministries.

The Commerce and Industry Ministry confirmed that 421 projects were evaluated in 2026 based on PM GatiShakti principles, which emphasise integrated planning, multimodal infrastructure development, last-mile connectivity and synchronised implementation.

All logistics and connectivity projects involving investments exceeding Rs 500 crore are routed through the Network Planning Group.

Launched on 13 October 2021, the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan has integrated more than 1,800 data layers covering 58 central ministries and departments and all 36 states and union territories.

The digital platform provides access to data related to land records, ports, forests, railway stations, water bodies and highways to facilitate coordinated infrastructure planning.

The initiative has also expanded beyond national-level infrastructure planning to encompass district-level and social-sector planning, incorporating roads, schools, healthcare facilities and water pipelines.

The Union Cabinet recently approved the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority to strengthen transport planning, project appraisal, monitoring and impact assessment for infrastructure projects worth Rs 500 crore or more.

The Network Planning Group has evaluated a total of 396 big-ticket infrastructure projects worth Rs 18.66 lakh crore as of August 2026, with 256 projects sanctioned and 198 currently under implementation.
