The Delhi Metro is entering a massive new chapter with the official greenlighting of Phase 5. In February 2026, the government approved three vital new corridors. These will span over 16.1 km. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 12,014 crore.
These routes are more than just tracks; they are strategic links designed to pull the city’s historic core – including Kartavya Path and the Central Vista – into the modern transit fold. By bridging these gaps and building advanced interchange hubs, Phase 5 will turn the Magenta Line into a record-breaking 89-kilometer stretch, making it the longest single corridor in the entire network.
Delhi Metro Phase 5: Key Features
- This will be the addition of the RK Ashram to the Indraprastha stretch. With this, the Magenta Line (Line 8) will become Delhi Metro‘s longest corridor. It will be approximately 89 km from the Botanical Garden to Inderlok after the project is completed.
- There will be 65 stations on the expanded Magenta Line. Out of these, 40 will be underground.
- The entire expanded stretch will function as a fully driverless corridor.
- The phase will feature 21 interchange stations on a single line. These will include four ‘triple interchange’ stations. These stations are Central Secretariat, Azadpur, New Delhi, and Inderlok.

Delhi Metro Phase 5 Progress
Work is already shifting into gear. With a government deadline of 2028, the DMRC is moving past the approval phase to lock in final designs and roll out construction tenders. Groundwork for the Magenta Line extension through Central Vista will be fast-tracked to stay in sync with the city’s ongoing redevelopment projects.
The Price Tag: What’s Phase 5 Costing?
The total budget for these three new lines sits at Rs 12,014 crore. That’s a massive investment, but it’s not just for laying tracks. A big chunk of that money is going into high-tech signaling so the trains can run themselves (driverless style) and the tricky job of digging out multi-level stations deep under the busy streets of Central Delhi.
Why This is a Game-Changer for Commuters
- Direct Drops at Iconic Spots: Finally, you won’t have to take an auto or walk a mile to get to the heart of the city. The metro will now take you straight to India Gate, Kartavya Path, the War Memorial, and Bharat Mandapam.
- Airport Runs Made Easy: The new link between Aerocity and Delhi Airport Terminal 1 is going to be a lifesaver for travelers. It cuts out the annoying traffic loop between terminals, making airport runs way less stressful.
- A Break from the Smog: Since these routes cover some of the most jammed areas in Central and South Delhi, it gives thousands of people a reason to leave their cars at home.
- No More ‘Station Hopping’: There will be 21 interchange points on this line. You won’t have to keep jumping from one color line to another. It’s expected to save most commuters around 20 to 30 minutes on their daily trip, which is basically enough time to grab a coffee or actually get home on time for once.
Delhi Metro Phase 5 Real Estate Impact
- Central Delhi Commercial Premium: Stations like Indraprastha, Shivaji Stadium, and Central Secretariat will see increased demand for Grade-A office spaces in Delhi as employee accessibility improves.
- South Delhi and Tughlakabad Growth: The Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj link will likely lead to a 15% to 25% rise in values of properties in Southeast Delhi.
- Aerocity Hospitality Hub: Enhanced connectivity between Aerocity and Terminal 1 will further cement Aerocity’s position as a premium hospitality and commercial district.
