The Jharkhand government has received the Centre’s approval to set up four new medical colleges in the state under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode, according to an official statement. The initiative aims to expand medical education and strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
Four New Colleges to Boost Medical Education
Under the approved proposal, new medical colleges will be established in Khunti with a capacity of 50 MBBS seats, and in Jamtara, Dhanbad, and Giridih, each offering 100 seats. These institutions are part of the ‘Scheme for Establishment of Medical Colleges in PPP Mode’, launched by the Government of India to improve access to quality medical education nationwide.
Centre Gives Nod After Detailed Presentation
As per the Business Standard, the approval came following a meeting between Jharkhand’s Health and Medical Education Department Additional Chief Secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh and officials from the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) in New Delhi on Tuesday. During the meeting, Singh made a detailed presentation outlining the state’s proposal.
After the presentation, the Centre gave its nod to the state’s proposal,” the official statement confirmed.
Strengthening Healthcare and Creating Jobs
Commenting on the development, Ajoy Kumar Singh said,
“The opening of medical colleges under the PPP mode will enhance medical education and healthcare services in the state while creating new employment opportunities for local youth.”
Expanding Access and Building Capacity
Singh further emphasized that the new medical colleges will help increase the number of specialist doctors in rural and semi-urban areas, improve access to medical training, and strengthen Jharkhand’s health infrastructure.
This move positions Jharkhand to address doctor shortages, improve healthcare access, and empower youth through medical education.
