30-Minute NCR: Imagine reaching any major NCR city from Delhi in half an hour. That’s the big promise of the draft Regional Plan-2041, which commits to 30-minute connectivity between Delhi and the region’s big cities through superfast trains. According to reports, the draft goes before the NCR Planning Board on June 16. (PTI)

Superfast Trains: The crux of this vision is the Namo Bharat (RRTS) network. Eight corridors are planned in all directions out of Delhi — including Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar, Delhi-Faridabad-Palwal, Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Rohtak and Delhi-Ghaziabad-Hapur. The 136-km Delhi-Panipat-Karnal line alone is designed to cut a 4-hour journey to 90 minutes. (PTI)

Heli-Taxi Network: Beyond rail, the plan reads like science fiction. It envisions a future-ready, slum-free NCR connected by heli-taxis, air ambulances, and even inland waterways, alongside road and rail. (Representative Image/Unsplash)

8 New Townships: Up to eight new greenfield townships are proposed across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, designed as self-sustaining economic and residential hubs — the plan’s big bet on pulling growth, and people, away from an overburdened Delhi. (Representative Image/PTI)

Smart Cities Push: These won’t be ordinary suburbs. Every new settlement must come fitted with modern smart civic infrastructure, modelled on advanced smart city projects built under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. (Representative Image/PTI)

The Urgency – 3 Crore More Residents: The plan estimates the NCR region will need to accommodate more than 3 crore additional residents over the next 15 years — roughly the population of an entire mid-sized state moving into NCR. (PTI)

Tokyo Overtake Projection: Projections cited in the plan suggest Delhi-NCR could become the world’s largest urban capital by 2030, overtaking Tokyo — a milestone that makes the 2041 blueprint less ambition, more necessity. (PTI)

Rs 20 Lakh Crore Plan: The price tag is staggering. Meeting the region’s housing, transport and civic infrastructure demand could require investments of around Rs 20 lakh crore — one of the largest urban investment programmes ever attempted in India. (PTI)

A New City Of 20 Lakh People: Along the Yamuna Expressway, UP’s YEIDA is planned as a greenfield city with a design population of 20 lakh, anchored by the Jewar international airport and the upcoming Film City, and is proposed to be developed as a full Metro Centre. (PTI)

Panchgram – Five Cities In A Ring: Haryana’s contribution is the boldest. Five greenfield cities, or the Panchgrams, are proposed along the 135-km KMP Expressway loop, spread across 2.5 lakh hectares, with development planned 2-6 km on both sides of the expressway under a dedicated Panchgram Development Authority.
