The Centre is set to strengthen railway infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh with the inauguration of the redeveloped Rayanapadu and Mangalagiri railway stations on 17 July under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate both upgraded stations to the nation, with Rayanapadu inaugurated directly and Mangalagiri through a virtual ceremony.
Rayanapadu railway station, located in the Vijayawada division, has undergone redevelopment at an estimated cost of around Rs 35 crore.
The first phase, completed for nearly Rs 20 crore, included a redesigned station façade, upgraded platforms, improved foot overbridges, enhanced circulation areas and organised parking facilities.
The station has emerged as an important satellite terminal, easing operational pressure on Vijayawada Junction, which manages nearly 300 train movements every day.
At present, it serves 12 trains operating between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam, with railway authorities planning to increase services in line with passenger demand.
Traditional motifs and murals reflecting Kondapalli craftsmanship have been incorporated throughout the station to create an attractive and culturally significant passenger experience.
The second phase will focus on developing Platforms 2 and 3, including full platform covers, tactile flooring and other passenger facilities.
Meanwhile, the Mangalagiri railway station in the Guntur division has been modernised for Rs 12.56 crore.
The project includes a renovated station building, a new second entrance, waiting halls, a VIP lounge, lifts, accessible facilities for Divyangjan passengers, upgraded platforms, improved circulation areas and landscaped surroundings
