The base map for the proposed Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UPSCR) has been approved, clearing the first major stage in the planning of the region covering six districts.
The map will now be placed before the executive committee for approval, after which the regional plan will be prepared.
The decision was taken at a review committee meeting chaired by Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant at the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) on Tuesday (8 September).
The UPSCR will cover Lucknow, Sitapur, Unnao, Hardoi, Barabanki and Rae Bareli, spanning 26,741 sq km.

Economic development proposals include industrial development, logistics parks and food parks. Development along the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway corridor has also been identified as a key project under the regional plan.
The base map was examined by 22 government departments and agencies, including development authorities, the revenue department, Public Works Department, Railways, Forest Department, municipal bodies, irrigation authorities and the Uttar Pradesh Town and Country Planning Department. All provided their consent after reviewing the map.
To verify the accuracy of satellite-based data, ground-truthing was carried out at 2,239 locations across the six districts. Consultants and officials cross-checked satellite imagery and map data through site visits.
