New Delhi, Oct 12: The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) is monitoring 396 major infrastructure projects involving a total investment of ₹18.66 lakh crore, according to a government factsheet released on Monday. As of August 11, 2026, 256 projects had been sanctioned, of which 198 were under implementation. The initiative uses a digital, Geographic Information System (GIS)-based platform to improve coordination among ministries and support integrated infrastructure planning across India.

Launched on October 13, 2021, PM GatiShakti brings together infrastructure and geospatial data from Central Ministries, states and Union Territories on a common platform. It enables planners to examine transport networks, geographic features, economic zones and logistics infrastructure together. By identifying missing connectivity links and infrastructure gaps, the system aims to improve project coordination, reduce delays and costs, and facilitate the efficient movement of people, goods and services.

The plan maps economic zones such as textile and pharmaceutical clusters, defence corridors, electronic parks, industrial corridors, fishing clusters and agricultural zones. For example, the proposed upgraded Khagaria–Purnea corridor in Bihar is planned to connect five PM GatiShakti economic nodes, including a textile cluster, mega food parks and fishing or seafood parks, along with 11 logistics nodes. The planned connectivity is intended to improve the movement of goods and passengers across the region. The framework follows six guiding principles focused on integrated development, multimodal infrastructure, last-mile connectivity, expedited land acquisition, minimised clearances and reduced ecological impact.

The plan’s seven infrastructure engines comprise roads, railways, ports, waterways, airports, mass transport and logistics infrastructure. Its institutional framework covers 58 Central Ministries and Departments and all 36 states and Union Territories, enabling infrastructure proposals to be assessed across sectors. The PM GatiShakti Public platform provides access to 230 approved datasets for site suitability analysis, connectivity mapping, alignment planning and compliance checks. More than 23,493 data layers, as of October 12, bring infrastructure and related information together to support data-driven planning and decision-making.

PM GatiShakti is strengthening integrated infrastructure planning by bringing ministries, states and multiple transport networks onto a common digital platform. Its use of geospatial data is intended to improve connectivity, coordination and the efficient implementation of major infrastructure projects.
