Tata Power Company on Tuesday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) to develop 110 kV power infrastructure for the latter’s Petro Resid Fluidised Catalytic Cracking Unit (PRFCCU) project at its Mumbai Refinery.

According to an official press release, the infrastructure will cater to the project’s power requirement of 90 MW. The power infrastructure development is estimated to entail a combined investment of around ₹250 crore for Tata Power and BPCL. The project is expected to be completed in about 24 months. The PRFCCU project has a processing capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and an estimated project outlay of ₹14,203 crore. According to Tata Power, it is BPCL’s second-largest project currently under execution and the largest ever undertaken at its Mumbai Refinery.

The project is aimed at improving higher-value product recovery and supporting petrochemical diversification. It is also expected to enhance domestic value addition and contribute to India’s energy security, Tata Power said.Under the MoU, Tata Power will provide 110 kV connectivity and undertake the design and development of the associated power infrastructure needed to meet the refinery project’s electricity requirements.

Separately, Tata Power plans to develop a 400 kV transmission facility at Trombay over the next five years. The proposed infrastructure is expected to improve power evacuation capability and support grid availability for Mumbai’s industrial and commercial ecosystem.
