India’s high-speed rail programme moved a step closer to reality after the first visual design of the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train was unveiled at the Ministry of Railways in New Delhi.

The image of the country’s first planned bullet train has been installed at Gate Number 4 of the Railway Ministry building, offering the public an early look at the design of the upcoming high-speed service.

The rolling stock features an orange colour scheme, closely resembling the design aesthetic of the Vande Bharat Express trains.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor is expected to become India’s first operational bullet train route and is currently targeted for launch on 15 August, 2027.

The project is expected to dramatically reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to nearly two hours.

“A picture of the country’s first proposed bullet train has been displayed at the Ministry of Railways. The picture has been installed at Gate Number 4,” the Indian Railways said in a statement cited by ANI.
