Govt targets over 26,000 km rural roads in FY27 with ₹18,907 crore push

In the high-level meeting organised by the Ministry of Rural Development, states were directed to expedite the completion of all remaining unconnected habitations under PMGSY-I and PM-JANMAN, with special focus on PVTG habitations.The Union government has set a target to complete over 26,000 km of rural roads in FY 2026–27, earmarking ₹18,907 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and related connectivity schemes, the Ministry of Rural Development said on Thursday.The target was highlighted during a comprehensive high-level review meeting, chaired by Rohit Kansal, Secretary, Department of Rural Development, Government of India, which assessed state-wise physical and financial progress under PMGSY and the Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA).

In the meeting, states were directed to expedite the completion of all remaining unconnected habitations under PMGSY-I and PM-JANMAN, with special focus on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations.The meeting also underscored the universal deployment of the e-MARG (Electronic Maintenance of Rural Roads under PMGSY) platform, which enables real-time monitoring of maintenance activities, performance assessment, and payment tracking. Wider adoption of the platform is expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in rural road maintenance.
