The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to convert the entire Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) fleet into electric buses by 2029, according to PTI.
The initiative will be implemented under the Andhra Pradesh Sustainable Electric Mobility Policy 4.0 and covers more than 10,600 buses currently operating across the state.
Addressing concerns surrounding the transition, Special Chief Secretary (Transport) Krishna Babu categorically rejected speculation that APSRTC was being privatised.
He clarified that there is no proposal to sell, lease or transfer the corporation’s assets to private players and appealed to the public not to be misled by what he termed a misinformation campaign.
APSRTC presently operates over 8,000 owned buses alongside nearly 2,650 hired vehicles.
