NTPC board approves ₹20,457 crore investment for 1,600 MW Lara Stage-III thermal project

New Delhi: State-run NTPC Ltd said its board has approved an investment proposal for the Lara Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2×800 MW) at an estimated cost of ₹20,456.70 crore.

According to the company’s statement, the investment proposal concerns the development of Stage-III of the Lara Super Thermal Power Project, comprising two 800 MW thermal power units, thereby bringing the total approved capacity under the project to 1,600 MW.According to a Bloomberg report, NTPC is seeking to invest in overseas uranium mines to secure the supplies needed to fuel 30 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity it plans to build over the next two decades.

The state-run Maharatna company issued a tender to appoint consultants to help identify potential assets in uranium-mining countries, including Canada, Australia, Kazakhstan and South Africa.Shares of NTPC closed at ₹345.05, up 0.39 per cent on July 10. The stock touched an intraday high of ₹348.80 and a low of ₹343.20 during the session.
