The proposed Phase 3 expansion of Kochi Metro is set to prioritise direct connectivity to Cochin International Airport, with the detailed project report (DPR) identifying a nearly 17.5 km Aluva-Angamaly corridor as the preferred option.
However, the plan does not include a direct Metro link to Angamaly railway station.
The DPR examined four possible alignments based on factors such as technical feasibility, project cost and expected ridership. It recommends a hybrid route combining elevated sections with an underground stretch to connect Aluva, the airport and Angamaly.
Under the preferred alignment, the Metro would run on an elevated viaduct along NH 544 from Aluva to Kariyad. It would then enter a 3-km underground section leading to an underground station at Cochin International Airport.The proposed corridor would have 15 stations, including Thottakkattukara, Kunnampuram, Parambayam, Nedumbassery, Athani, Kariyad, the airport railway station, airport, Nayathode, Kavarapparambu, Arikkal Junction, LF Hospital, Angamaly Town, Kothakulangara and Karayamparambu.
