A team from the Office of the United States Trade Representative is scheduled to visit India on June 23 and 24 for talks with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said on June 15.
Agrawal said the discussions were expected to focus on giving “final touches” to the first tranche of the proposed India-US trade deal and on the broader bilateral trade agreement that has been under discussion between the two countries.
Our expectation is discussion will be centred around giving final touches to the first tranche of the deal as well as the larger BTA that has been under discussion,” Agrawal said at the monthly trade data briefing.
The visit will follow a June 1-4 round of talks in New Delhi, when a USTR delegation led by its chief negotiator held discussions with Indian officials on the bilateral trade agreement. The commerce ministry had said after that visit that the two sides discussed trade in goods, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, economic security alignment and other areas of mutual interest.
