Construction has commenced on the new Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad.
The first phase of the project, estimated to cost more than Rs 3,000 crore, is targeted for completion and operational readiness by 2029-30 as passenger traffic continues to rise.
The new terminal will be developed in phases to ensure uninterrupted airport operations throughout the construction period. According to project plans, the initial phase will be built adjacent to the existing domestic terminal, extending from the T3 side.
According to a Times of India report, airport authorities have already begun preparing the site, with work underway to demarcate construction zones after most of the existing T3 facilities were vacated.
“T3 has nearly been vacated. The existing spaces are being demarcated as the construction of periphery is underway. The terminal complex will expand further in subsequent phases as part of the airport’s plans to increase passenger handling capacity,” a source was quoted as saying by TOI.
Once completed, the facility will significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and support increasing domestic and international traffic.
Alongside the terminal project, work is also progressing on a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) building within the airport campus.
Additional upgrades to airside infrastructure and utility systems are also underway.
